Several Paragon athletes swam-biked-ran their way to the podium at the Kerrville Triathlon Festival this weekend. The sprint-distance event was held on Saturday. Raul Correa finished in a time of 1:10:33, earning himself second place in his age group. He was also 9th overall. Jason McIntyre and Diana Ruderman also had fantastic races. Jason finished in 1:14:15, taking home the third place trophy in his age group. Diana finished first in her age group, with a time of 1:14:26. She was the third female overall. In a race of over 430 finishers, it was no easy task for each of our Paragon athletes to podium.
On Sunday, we had the quarter-distance and half-distance events (1/4 and 1/2 of the 140.6 Ironman distances). Jorge Garcia tackled the half, and it was a long day—first in the rain, taking curves and downhills cautiously, and then baking in the hot sun for the last 3 hours of the afternoon. Jorge is an inspiration, still going strong at 63. He finished in just under 8 hours, with a time of 7:55:08, and earned himself 5th place in his division. I competed in the quarter- distance race, and finished first in my age group with a time of 2:42:13. It was a beautiful course, especially the run, and a well-managed race. Congratulations to all who competed! See you out there next year.
