UTSA Triathlon Returns to Nationals

The UTSA Triathlon Team returned to Tuscaloosa, Alabama last weekend for the USA Triathlon Collegiate Club National Championships. There are three different races contested over the course of the weekend at the USA Triathlon Collegiate Club National Championships. A draft legal sprint triathlon comes first on Friday morning, followed by the standard Olympic distance race on Saturday morning, and a mixed team relay event on Saturday afternoon. The mixed team relay is a draft-legal, super-sprint format where 4 members from each team, 2 men and 2 women, each race a mini triathlon before tagging their teammate to do the same.

It was announced on Tuesday of race week that the race format would be changed from a triathlon to a duathlon due to heavy rainfall and unsafe conditions in the river where the swim was held. Undeterred by the changes, 15 UTSA started and finished the Olympic distance run-bike-run race held on Saturday. First time participant, Austin Sanchez, said that- "Overall it was pretty good. I didn't like my first run. I started off feeling not great. But my bike was pretty good and the second run was pretty good. My legs REALLY hurt."

Sunday, saw 1 Team Paragon member racing at Ironman Texas, and 2 team members compete at the San Marvelous road race in San Marcos, Tx.
