Another first-time IRONMAN crossed the line this past weekend! Beatriz Gamboa Salvat made her debut in Ironman Arizona on Sunday. She finished the 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run in 15:19:17. Ironman Arizona is a favorite among long-distance triathletes. The course offers a one-loop swim, three-loop bike, and three-loop run course along Tempe Town Lake. Congratulations Iron(wo)man!
Texas Tough Duathlon
Also this weekend was the Texas Tough Duathlon, a run-bike-run in the Texas Hill Country. Racers were challenged with rain and cold temperatures as they raced one of the toughest courses in Texas. Competitors included Justin Nix, Ildar Mannapov, Kris Ryan, Carlos Torres, Alfonso Campa, April Smith, Mark Saroni, Justin McKenzie with teammate Victor Mares, and relay team Elvia and Albert Rodriguez. Saroni defended his overall title when he again crossed the line in first. Smith placed 3rd in Masters. Torres won his age group. Nix won his age group. Mannapov placed 2nd in his age group. Alfonso Campa placed 3rd in his age group. "Team Work" - the creative team name for co-workers McKenzie and Mares - won 2nd place for the men's team division.
Texas Tough is the largest fundraiser for the UTSA Triathlon Team. UTSA will be traveling to Tempe, AZ - where Salvat raced Ironman this weekend! - for Collegiate Nationals in April.
