Paragon athletes traveled from Texas and New York to converge on the beautiful city of Phoenix, Arizona last weekend. Their hopes and dreams of qualifying for the Boston marathon lay nestled in the foothills of the mountain range bordering the city. A point-to-point course, the Mesa-Phx Marathon offered a perfect opportunity for runners to achieve a fast time over the marathon or half distance.
Emi Nix, Justin Nix, Diana Ruderman, Beatriz Salvat, and Michael Chiang all raced the marathon while Raul Correa competed in the half distance.
PR's fell left and right as Emi Nix and Diana Ruderman both achieved their goal of qualifying for Boston. Emi ran so hard she tripped/collapsed at the finish line and required a 30 minute IV in the medical tent!
Justin Nix ran a full 20 minutes faster than he did at the Rock N Roll marathon in December. Beatriz Salvat ran much faster than her goal time of 5 hours. Michael Chiang fell victim to the whims of airline travel and didn't arrive until 1:00 AM the night before the race. A 3:30 AM wake up time gave him less than two hours of sleep, but he gutted it out for a strong finish.
