Paragon Training hosted their annual Hill Country Training Camp this past weekend near Dripping Springs. We had about 20 athletes practicing bike handling skills, building endurance on the bike and run, and learning helpful techniques for open water swimming. We had a few athletes even do their first century ride! Some also did their longest run! Of course, we built performance recovery in too, with foam rollers, the Hypervolt, Air Relax boots, and lots of food. Thanks to *Picky Bars for sponsoring nutrition at our camp! Participants got to try the multiple flavors of bars, oats, and granola.
On Saturday night after the long ride, we received a live talk from *Athlete Blood Test (ABT). Mark Saroni allowed us to review his recent results as an example of the high-quality testing, evaluations, and personalized feedback that ABT gives their athletes. The different panels include, for instance, a comprehensive metabolic panel, iron, ferritin, vitamin D, sodium, cortisol, free testosterone, and many other markers that are important for athletes to know. There is an ideal range in order for athletes to optimize performance, and sometimes the ideal differs from the 'normal' that might be otherwise identified by doctors. We reviewed Mark's results and had a Q&A session. Thank you to Dr. Anna and Ofer for speaking with us!
Carlos Torres raced long this past Saturday at the Pace Bend Ultra. Carlos did the 3hr ride and finished 2nd Overall! The race was held on the 6.2 mile loop around Pace Bend Park. The road is paved and smooth, but it is quite hilly. Athletes did as many loops as they could in 3, 6, 12, or 24 hours!
And racing even longer on Saturday, Jason McIntyre went for the Dirty Dozen Mountain Bike Race in Warda, TX. Similar to the Pace Bend Ultra, athletes raced as many laps (8.25 miles each) as they could in their time category. Jason did the 6 hour race, and he won for Cat 2, 40 and Under!
