Meet our October Athlete Spotlight, Erica Van Nest! Erica just completed her FIRST triathlon at the Kerrville Quarter last month! Beforehand, she set a PR on her 10k in the spring and raced the swim and run at IRONMAN 70.3 Lubbock as part of a relay. Erica works hard juggling training with parenting and work. She is also a consistent supporter at team races, cheering on her partner Jose and fellow Paragon athletes.

How long have you been swimming, cycling, running, and/or doing triathlons? Training consistently, less than 1 year. I have been running for longer and have been adding on the other sports recently.
What aspects of triathlon do you enjoy most? The challenge when training and racing, but even more so the thrills and energy during the racing. Life can be stressful at times, and the training gives an outlet for life’s not so fun moments.
What has been your favorite training or racing event, and why? All races have been equivalent and all awesome, whether competing OR supporting. The positive vibes during the events lead to feeling great and being motivated to improve for the next time. Enjoyable times for a job well done when training.
What is your favorite post-workout or race meal? A big fat, juicy burger and fries.
What is one recent accomplishment you are proud of? Just completed my 1st triathlon at the Quarter distance in Kerrville! Room for improvement, but I DID IT!
What do you want to be when you grow up? Successful in the many hats I wear. I am still learning life when it comes to kids, work, health, and just juggling it all.
What is something no one knows about you? I was almost a dentist.
